Being in school and running a business at the same time can seem like a lot to handle. How are you supposed to stay on top of your work, go to class, have a social life and start and run a new company? Just take it one step at a time! When you have laid the groundwork of your new business and the time comes to publicize it follow these steps to ensure that you do so to the best of your ability.
Tell your school what you’re up to
If you don’t have your school on side while trying to run a business while in college then you will never be successful. They could shut you down if you are doing something against their rules. However, if you go to the administration and even your professors and let them know about your business and your plans they might be able to help you. You don’t necessarily have to directly ask them for their help, but show them your passion and vision for your company and they might be inclined to help you out.
Get in touch with the right people
Do your research and utilize social media. Through market research you will learn who you should target your advertising towards. In today’s day and age of technology the best way to reach the most amount of people for cheap is by utilizing social media. All you need is a video camera, or even just an iPhone, to make a commercial. You don’t even need a media team! There are many applications online to help you edit and make your video as visually pleasing as possible. Make a fun and creative video explaining your company and its product or service that will get potential customers excited and grab their interest. Make sure that you upload it to the right platforms and utilize all of the best known tactics for spreading social media, such as hashtags, tags, and witty captions.
Sponsor an event or throw your own
The majority of college students are involved in clubs or organizations on campus. It is a very easy way for people to get involved, meet other people, and learn about what’s going on on their campus and around the world. Many clubs/organizations throw events that every student is able to attend, whether it’s a party, a sports tournament, a free meal or a pie eating contest, events are a fun way to spread the word about something and get the community involved. If you sponsor the event you can hand out apparel and/or flyers promoting your business. This is a very cheap and effective way to get the word out. Before you do this, though, be sure that your website and social media properties are up and running so that people can easily follow you and keep track of what your company is up to.
